The Center for Specialized Analytical Control in the Field of Environmental Protection (CSAC) under the Ministry of Ecology and the Center for the Development of Professional Qualifications of Medical Workers of the Ministry of Health within the framework of the Joint Ministry of Environment/UNEP project “Strengthening the institutional capacity of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the implementation of the Basel and Stockholm conventions and the GHS, as well as promoting accession to the Rotterdam and Minamata Conventions" held a seminar on the topic "The role of international legislation in reducing the impact of toxic substances on health."
At the opening of the seminar, Haniya Asilbekova, the head of the Information and Analytical Department of the CSAC under the Ministry of Ecology, spoke about its goals and objectives. Her presentation focused on the role of international legislation in reducing the health effects of toxic substances.
A presentation on the topic “Legislative framework for managing chemicals and waste in Uzbekistan” was made by Shukhrat Fayziev, Professor of the Department of Environmental Law at Tashkent State Law University, Project expert. He told the meeting participants in detail about the legislative system in the field of chemicals and waste management in Uzbekistan. He focused on the environmental standards of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as on individual articles and provisions of regulatory legal acts relating to requirements for handling chemicals.
At the working sessions “UN Chemicals and Waste Convention: Basic Provisions and Development Prospects” and “SAICM Issues of Concern”, Olga Speranskaya, International Expert, Co-Chair of the international organization HEJSupport (Supporting Health and Environmental Justice), made a presentation.
The final session, led by the head of the department of the Center for the Development of Professional Qualifications of Medical Workers of the Ministry of Health Damir Zareddinov, was devoted to the issues of chemical management and public health.
At the end of the training seminar, an interactive session was organized on topical issues of protecting public health from the negative effects of hazardous chemicals and waste.
